Invisalign® in Amarillo, TX

Discreetly Straighten Teeth & Correct Bite Problems

If you want straighter teeth but don't want the look or feel of braces, Invisalign may be the treatment option for you! Invisalign uses clear align technology to facilitate tooth movement just like traditional metal braces, but without brackets or wires. Dr. Astuto is a board-certified orthodontist who offers Invisalign in Amarillo, TX, for kids, teens, and adults. If you or your child are ready to begin orthodontic treatment, contact Full Smile Orthodontics to see how the Invisalign aligner system can benefit your smile.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign is an advanced clear aligner system that works by using align technology to gradually move teeth. Every plastic aligner is custom-fitted for your smile. Every few weeks, you will wear a new set of aligners that are slightly different from the ones before. Over time, the aligners will move teeth into proper alignment, resulting in a straighter smile.

Invisalign can correct a number of orthodontic issues, including:

  • Crowded teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Cross bite
  • Gap teeth
  • Open bite

The Invisalign system is also an option for children as young as 6 who are ready to start Phase 1 treatment. Children can wear clear aligners to improve their smile as they grow and make room for incoming permanent teeth. Teens and adults love Invisalign because the aligners are virtually invisible, which means they can straighten their teeth comfortably and without the look of brackets or wires.

Benefits of Invisalign

  • No bulky brackets or poking wires
  • Trays are virtually invisible
  • Custom-fitted to feel comfortable in your mouth
  • Removable for brushing and eating
  • You're in control of your orthodontic treatment
  • Predictable results
  • Achieve a healthier, straighter smile

How Is Invisalign Different From Braces?

Similar to braces, the aligners place mild-to-moderate pressure on teeth to move them into proper alignment. However, there are no brackets, wires, or fixed appliances involved. Treatment times with clear aligners can also be shorter than traditional braces. Some patients complete their Invisalign treatment in as little as 6 months, while the shortest average amount of time to wear braces is about one year.

The aligners are completely removable and you will take them out to eat, brush your teeth, and play sports or instruments. With braces, you have to clean around brackets and wires and avoid certain foods to avoid damaging your brackets. With Invisalign, you simply take out your aligners to brush your teeth and there are no dietary restrictions because you do not eat with your aligners in.

What to Expect During Invisalign Treatment

During your first visit, Dr. Astuto will examine your teeth and create a custom treatment plan to address your orthodontic concerns. Using 3D digital scanning technology, we can plan out every detail of your treatment, including how long it will take. We will also use these scans to create your custom Invisalign clear aligners.

You will wear each set of aligners for 1 week. You should wear your aligners for about 22 hours a day, only removing them to brush your teeth, eat, drink, or play sports. Every 2 weeks, you will receive a new set of aligners and will continue wearing new sets of trays every few weeks until you have achieved the end results.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does Invisalign take?

You are in control of your orthodontic treatment with Invisalign, and you will achieve the desired results faster if you wear your aligners often. You can expect to notice results in just a few weeks, and some patients complete their aligner treatment in as little as 6 months. If you have more complex orthodontic issues that need to be addressed, if you lose your trays, or if you do not wear your trays as often as you should, your treatment time will take longer.

How much does Invisalign cost?

The cost of your Invisalign treatment will depend on the complexity of your treatment, how long you need to wear your aligners for, and how many replacements you require, if any. The details of your dental insurance plan will also determine the final cost. Contact our Amarillo office for a consultation and we will provide you with a cost estimate for Invisalign during your first appointment.

What can Invisalign not fix?

Invisalign is not recommended when teeth are rotated more than 20 degrees or if the gaps between teeth are too large. Braces are required to rotate a tooth, correct large gaps, or pull an impacted tooth into the dental arch.

Do I have to wear a retainer after Invisalign?

Yes, you will need to wear a retainer nightly after you finish Invisalign treatment. The same goes for completing any type of teeth straightening, including clear aligners and traditional braces. Wearing a retainer will help you maintain your results and prevent teeth from shifting back to their incorrect positions.
